Afghanistan, Bangladesh in talks for T20I series in October

Afghanistan are looking to host Bangladesh for a T20I series in October 2025 after a proposed series between the two teams was postponed a couple of times. The two boards have started the discussions and it is likely to be a three-match T20I series to aid the teams in preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka.

"We have already started our discussion with Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) regarding the series that was postponed earlier and hope to discuss further after Ramadan and we are hoping to play three T20Is as we are considering it as part of our preparation for the T20 World Cup," a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official, working closely with scheduling of the tour, told Cricbuzz.

It is understood that the series is likely to be held in early October. "I think if you look at the FTP that will give you information there has to be something (a window) in there (from October 2-12) and we are having discussion to finalise the date and itinerary," said an ACB official.

Afghanistan were initially slated to host Bangladesh for two Tests, along with three ODIs and three T20Is, in July 2024 but that tour got postponed upon request from the BCB who cited workload management. The ACB then @L0$ – three ODIs and three T20Is – in July-August at Greater Noida but that too didn't materialise as the BCB felt the weather in that part of India wouldn't be ideal for an international series.

Bangladesh and Afghanistan eventually played a three-match ODI series in the UAE in November as preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy. Meanwhile, the two boards are keen to hold the two-match Test series at a convenient time.
