I’ll play the role of a finisher: Nidhish

Nidhish M, a little-known cricketer, created a big flutter in the KPL 2015 auction when found himself in the middle of an intense bidding war and fetched a whopping Rs 3.15 lakh, after starting at a base price of only Rs 10,000. However, followers of Karnataka Premier League will be aware that the 28-year old batsman has been part of the T20 tournament since its inception, and has come up with valuable contributions with the bat several times. The fact that six franchises were eager to get hold of Nidhish speaks volumes of the cricketer's ability. In a chat with Cricbuzz, Nidhish spoke about being part of different franchises over the years, his role in the Bijapur Bulls team and his cricketing journey, among other things.

I did not expect that much (in the KPL auction), it came as a surprise for me. It was one lakh more than what I got last year. It was a pleasant surprise as I did not have much expectations.

I have played with Vinay for so many years, so I know him well. It was a good experience under him, he is a good captain and a good bowler.

@B2$

I had different experiences with different franchises, different captains, the team co-ordination. It is a learning experience at the end of the day. But, when you go out there in the middle, it is the same job. I have just joined the Bijapur team so I am still getting to know the franchise and the players. Davangere was a strict team while it was more relaxed with Belagavi.

Robin is highly experienced when it comes to T20 and Mithun is a good bowler, he's doing well. As far as my role is concerned, I have been told that I have to consolidate the middle-order position and finish the game well whenever I get the opportunity to go and bat. So, I have to give my best at the end of the day.

In the final, I opened the batting. All the other games, I batted either at No. 5 or No. 6. I barely got to bat for five-six overs, maximum of 10 overs. I feel, in T20 cricket, you can play your strokes better against the new ball. Finishing a a tougher job. You go into pressure situations and have to go all out.

@B5$

I think I'll play the role of a finisher. T20 is a high-intensity game. As a finisher, you face hectic pressure situations. I have to go there and give my best shot and this will be my approach this season.

I have been playing cricket since the age of 13. It has been quite a long journey. I have played all the age groups – under-14, under-16, under-19, etc. When it comes to a red ball and a white ball, there is a lot of difference. We have to change our game according to the formats. I have adjusted to the changes and have grown as a cricketer. The cricketing journey overall has been good.
